Strange Fan Belt behavior on 1940 H - any ideas?

Hi Folks,

My 1940 H seems to be acting a little funny. I start it up, no problem, and it runs well for about 3 minutes, then the fan quits spinning. I checked the belt - it's not tight, but not too loose either, however, the tractor does get very very hot, so I'm assuming the the water isn't circulating. When I turn off the tractor and let it cool down, start it again & the same thing happens...

What are your thoughts besides bad thermostat/ bad water pump?
