ain't been wrenchin' on these old things all winter for nothin' your F-12 will take a 3/8 hex nut albiet the ones that IH used fit a 5/8 wrench. search through your used bolt cans and see what you find. I don't know what the parts book calls for but i would use some kind of washer or gasket under the nut. soft copper washer would be my first choice if I had some; (wish I did) good luck.
