I don't know about you but I'd not worry too much about the plastigauge. tighten up the bearing caps and check them by feel. If you can move the rod perceptibly by hand you probibly need to tighten things up a bit. This can be done by placing shims between the bearing and the cap. (aluminum beer cans work well)You might have to file the ends of the bearing shell. Be sure to check under a full crank revelution as the crank is probibly egg shaped and will bind on the quarter turn.
