The beer can/tin foil trick will only cause more problems down the road. I have had to purchase new connecting rods for several engnies that had this trick done to them. The pressuresexerted by the normal running of the engine may distort the rod, making it unusable durring the next rebuild. Rebuild the engine right.. As far as your problem is concerned, the crank may be worn out of round. If so, you will need to regrind the crank to get rid of the problem. did you rotate the crank between the tow plastigauge readings?
