HELP!! With 350

Does anyone have any ideas about what is wrong with the hydraulics on my 350. It just had an engine overhaul, after it had been setting for a couple of years. The hydraulics were fine before it quit running. When I brought it home after the overhaul the hydraulics seemed slow. I ran a little the the engine died as if it were under a load. When I lowered the bucket, to relieve the pressure, hydraulic fluid came out of the breather. I have since replaced the filter screen and hydraulic fluid, but get no response from the hydraulics at all. I am by no means a mechanic so please explain in terms even a dummy like me can understand. Thank you.
