It sounds to me like you managed to get you rotor out of time inside your mag. When you replaced the points did you remove the small cap that covers the gears that run the rotor? If so that needs to be correctly timed first. Also, when this gear housing is reinstalled over the points it has a flat spot on the shaft to keep it in time. If the shaft is worn you may have forced it together and it's not properly lined up. Hope this helps.
