One problem was that a lot of the dealers in non row crop areas didn't bother. I lived in an area of dairy farming and standard practice by dealer was to set them as wide as they would go without going to bother of changing dish. I relayed to you on another posting, problems with wheels on end of axel. I supose if anyone had checked IH probably warned against maximum pulls with wheels at end of axel. I remember a warning in 1066 manual against taking maximum pulls in three lowest gears with duals on. Wheels dished in was the way we achived putting duals on in early days. Farmalls H, M, 300, 400, 350 and 450 may have been great on that mid-west soil with 12 to 14 inch tires. In some parts we ran duals with no weight added, liquid or solid. The way to put duals on in those days was go to bone yard and pick up another set of wheels. Inside ones had to be dished in and out side ones dished out, that's the only way they would go on, with standard axel. First tractor I ever dualed that way was 560D.
