Your 504 probably did come with the 36" tires and wheels. They are not off a C or Super C, etc. C has smaller axel. You are not the first person to discover you had 36 inch wheels.
I think you will also find 504 axels to be same size as H, 300, 350 and 460, 2.5 inch. The 450, 560 and 656 have a larger axel.
