I have the same trouble with a 1946 M. It runs good under load but misses on one cylinder when idling. I disconnected each plug wire while the engine was running (use insulated pliers or you'll wish you had!) to find the cylinder that was missing. I checked the compression on that cylinder and it only had about 10 lbs. The other three weren't much better either. The old girl needs an overhaul.
