tim's right but I NEVER disturb the old filter gasket if it looks good and is not leaking. otherwise do as he says. I use a small screwdriver ground down to where it will fit in that narrow grove. Sometimes you will find that someone has added a new gasket on top of the old one! make shure you get them both out. once done right you may never have to do this again. Genuine IH filters come with a gasket. take a rag and clean out the gunk in the bottom of the filter housing, don't worry about the plug.
