The magneto is independent of the battery. If your tractor has a mag, the battery serves only for cranking, the mag makes its own spark. I think a mag consists basically of an armature that turns inside a magnet or magnetized field. The magneto also has a coil. On some Farmalls, the mag could be "converted" to a distributor by using an external coil and doing some wiring.

If your A was running OK before it was parked, the firing order was probably right and does not need checked (unless goats, cattle, or other animals have yanked the wires off) I would check the plugs for fire, if there is fire at plugs it may be fuel related (clogged fuel line, clean settling bulb, etc...) If you have no fire at plugs it is electrical. Good luck, post back if you need more and I'm sure someone will talk you through it. Fireman
