I'm feeling for you, Joseph. Two thoughts I'm having. One concerns your ground. A lot of folks curse 6-volt systems, but most problems about their reliability strem from the fact they they do need a good ground. Did you loosen up and retighten your ground strap/cable where it bolts to the chassis as part of your painting project. If so, I'd suggest unhooking it and cleaning the metal up bright. Might not be a bad idea anyway. Second, everything I've read about IH magnetos emphasizes the need to have things VERY clean inside the distributor, especially around the points (usually in the context of not over-lubeing the magneto). I'd try getting a spray can of electrical parts cleaner and cleaning up everything you can get to with the cap off the distributor. It's great stuff, flashes off and leaves things clean and dry. As to your question about the function of the switch, in the off position, it simply grounds the spark to kill the engine. Hang in there, you'll get it going! Scotty
