I need some help. I'll swallow my pride but I need help

I am in desperate need of problem solving my 44 A igntion system. I do not have a wiring diagram. Here is what I have going or not going. I read the posts below and thank you for your help. But I am totally stumped. I am new to Farmalls and magneto systems and I need someone who is willing to walk me through this. Pull switch has a wire that goes to the side of the magneto. I removed it per advice below and still have weak lightmeter response at the post on the side of the magneto. Is that wire correct from the pull switch to the magneto? There are two wires from the negative side battery terminal. One is the obvious main cable and the other goes to inside the light switch box. I have a weak test light response on the magneto post with the wire to the magneto on or off. I have no spark to the plugs. I have a fully charged battery now. The starter motor spins and the motor turns. But no ignition. The points were gummed up with oil this morning and I cleaned them. I also did a slight filing with 1500 grit paper to clean them. When pushing in the starter rod, and as the motor turns over the lightmeter response on the side of the magneto flickers. This tells me point are opening and closing. I have ordered a new set of points and condensor hoping that will be the problem. I have the plug wires and distributor cap correctly installed. Even have the rotor installed too. What would cause no spark or a weak lightmeter response? Bad points? I am going about this as systematically as my small mind can. I haven't changed anything since I got the tractor from a guy in PA. It worked fine until I parked it last week to do some minor painting. I masked off everyhting. Contacts and connections are clean, bright and tight. Can someone hold my hand and walk me through this because I have exhausted all logical means of this. Other than the points that I will replace tomorrow when they arrive.
