M wont start ?

M wouldnt start and was leaking gas out carbureator so had it rebuilt. Still wont start, still leaks gas out carbureator. Now I think it may need new coil.Put bare wire in distributor end of coil wire and couldnt detect spark when placed on/near block. Is that a legit test?? should the carbureator leak leak the gas. Maybe if it starts the engine will burn the gas not leak it. ?? Would M leak all gas out the tank thru carb while in storage if carb was right and forgot to turn off sediment bowl valve.??
