I plastigauged the mains and replaced and gauged the connecting rod bearings. I moved the rods back and forth to make sure they moved. It has a "pat pat" sound, and I think (and hope) it might be related to a manifold leak as cd mentioned. It makes a sound like a hollow tap on the valve cover, but nothing is hitting it. The manifold is the original distillate, and it is worn quite a bit; the idle adjust in the carb doesn't seem to respond, either. If it is a knock, could I still use it for shows and parades without blowing out the engine (my hope is that it will get worse before something bad happens)? I'm thinking one to two hours a week max over the summer just driving in 3rd. Thanks for your help.
