I'm restoring one of those beautiful Farmall F-20's. Mine is a 1936 on full steel. I bought this tractor 15 years ago from an older fella that had it sitting in his barn with a cracked block. The F-20 was painted a real nice gray and I was told it had been restored within the last twenty years. Well I'm tearing into the old tractor and on the hood I've noticed under the gray paint red paint. On the bottom side of the hood the red is very thick in places and looks like someone just slopped it on. I'm confused, I know I have to dig some more but I've heard 1936 is the year Farmall switched from gray to red. Does anyone have a serial number range or an approx. time in the year. I'm unsure if this hood might have been off another F-20 that was red and it was used on this tractor as a replacement hood or if the red color was popular back when and someone painted the tractor red at one time. I've got to tear into more parts on the tractor and figure out colors underneath the gray. Did farmall use a primer because I could not even find a primer unless they used the same color. I figured I come to the right place to get that wonderful knowledge from you guys, thanks bunches. This has been alot of fun playing with this old iron. Jim
