Im gonna be the odd man out on this!Although i agree that the mag can and is very dependable and you can run the tractor without a battery on a mag,I have had more problems with the mag than the distributor, guess its me or something. For example,on my M,I was constantly changing points and condensor, seemed it always got alot of moisture inside from condensation,(all I know is it was wet inside alot, espaecially in the summer for some reason),and just really being a pain in the rear.Put a distributor on and many yrs later, its still on there.Only thing that has had to be changed, beleive it or not,is the points and condensor twice in like 12 yrs.Cap is still the IH cap I piut on it in the 70s and the rotor is the same IH rotor I puit in there as well. Now granted the old gal hasnt ran near as much as it needs to,in fact some fellers run theirs more in one month than I do in a year!Just my experience!
