I would assume that the serial #s were assigned
either before or as they started down the assembly
line. They were assigned before the tractor was painted because Guy Fay's book says that the plate was masked off before the tractors were painted. Casting dates aren't an exact idicator
of when the tractor was assembled. There would have been some lead time from when the parts were
cast till the tractors were assembled. The castings may not have always been used on a first-in, first-out basis. There was a month by month
serial # list for Ms in Red Power a while back.
It would be interesting to know when your tractor that you know the serial # of was built. My F-20
was built in jan of 39 and most of the casting dates are from late Nov 38.
