M won't start, have I got a weak magneto coil?

My M Farmall will not start with the starter. If I pull it off, it idles and runs just fine! I replaced the points and condensor in the Magneto, replaced the wiring, rotor button, distributor cap, and plugs. I am getting a weak red spark to the plugs, but it just won't start on it's own. Could it be due to low compression? I don't have a compression tester, but the M is probably overdue for an overhaul. Anyone had this problem? Is it a big job replacing the coil?
