the gas coming from the overflow tells me that your float is set wrong and is allowing the gas to come out or...the float you have has a hole in it. that will also allow your tractor to flood itself out and die like that. mine was the same way and i took it apart and it worked fine after that. also look in your manual and set the carb up with the screw setings in there. with the smoke coming out you may be fouling the plugs too. try resetting your float and/or put it in a pot of water and see if it sinks or swims. keep us posted!!!
