My 300U is howling

The other night after mowing for 3 hours I was putting my 300U away and it started making some awful loud howling noise. It sounded like it was coming from up front somewhere. I couldn't hear the engine over it. I shut the tractor off right away.
Last night I started it up again and it was ok for about 5 minutes and then it started again. I kept driving it and it went away. I mowed for another 2 hours before it started screeching again. When its making this noise the whole tractor is vibrating alot. what should I be looking for as far as the problem. I just put an alternator on it but doubt if it could produce so much noise and vibration.
