Mike - With the motor running at full RPM you should see about 3 - 5 amps charge with the switch set on "L", and between 10 - 15 amps on "H". Cutout points should be closed whenever the motor is running above about 1/4 throttle, regardless of switch position.

Presuming the generator and wiring is OK, possible causes for your problem: 1 - Bad ground at the ammeter box (i.e. between the box and the steering stantion, or between the stantion and the tranny deck plate). 2 - Bad ground between the ammeter box cover and the box. 3 - Bad light switch.
