Good to hear that it was, in fact, the charging system. An ammeter has it's place when trying to determine if the alternator/generator is able to keep up with the load. And it will tell you some things that a voltmeter won't tell you. But if you really want to know if the charging system is trying to apply the correct (13.8 volt, nominal) charge to the battery for a full charge, you just can't beat a voltage check.
