what are these magnetos?????

My neighbor has been trying to convert me to a farmall for 3 years. I just finish mow a few acres with my fergie. I am (secretly) impressed with the uncluttered durability of his A and plan to add one to my garage if possible. Do all A's have a magneto? Are they a problem to work on? Some folks say you have to find a good magneto man to work on them. Neither of us are mechanics and struggle after passing points, plugs,& condensor. On this splendidly simple machine why does it need a magneto?
