Serail no Tag

Buddy of mine has this 42 H,never had a tag on it since he bough it but casting codes sya its a 42,so hes gone by that for several yrs now.Hes FINALLY going to retire it and restore it and would like to have a tag for it so we went shopping in the local salvage yards for a 42 with pretty close casting codes.On was only like 3 days older than his tractor.Guy told us to pull it off so we did!After restoration he'll put it on his H.Any body think this is a bad move!?
