How are wheels bolted to hub on narrow front M??

Anyone have a picture of the wheels bolted on a narrow front 1949 M? I just installed a narrow front on mine and bolted the wheels to the outside of the hub. Someone told me they were supposed to be bolted behind the hub. What is the width between the bottom of the tires when they are installed. Thanks in advance.
