460's and 560's always seem to have problems with the shifting forks. They will get one out of line, without the shifter in it, and then you can't go anywhere or you loose gears. Our 460 does this about once a year. To fix, just remove the gearshift (three 9/16 bolts hold it on), and use a big screwdriver to line the forks up in the neutral position.
My guess is that your 1st/R fork got out of line, but not far enough out of line that it would put you into 1 or R. And driving down the road, it vibrated back into place. Just keep a wrench in your toolbox, otherwise you will someday be wishing VERY HARD that you had one....
