Actually what you have wrong is end of gear shift is worn. This allows shift lever to move to next rail without completely aligning the 1st-reverse rail exactly in the neutral position. Build the end of shift lever up with weld until fils notch in rail. Use a grinder to smooth it out and keep it rectangular. Grind it until it shifts smooth. The down side if you do nothing is someday you will be shifting from 3rd to 4th in a hurry. Transmission will not be removed from 3rd, it will go into 4th at same time. You will before you realize drop the clutch and break gears. Believe me it can happen. That advice is for you as well as guy who posted ahead of me.
