If I am reading your post correctly you have the oil level for the air cleaner correct. I think the inner bowl has slots around the outer edge marked "oil level". You can remove the rest of the air cleaner and soak it in solvent to clean it. I think the owners manual says to use kerosene but I haven't got my manual close by. If you removed the old oil filter gasket completely before installing the new one you should be OK too. Case IH makes a spin on conversion for the 460 and it makes changing the filter easier and faster. I think the last one I bought was about $40.
