A week or so ago, I posted about my 544 having a missing problem. I said I had new points, condensor, plugs, distributor cap, and totally rebuilt the carb. I also said that if you turn the gas off at the sediment bowl, it will run nice and smooth just before it runs out of gas. Some of the replies I got suggested a cracked manifold. My manifold was definitely cracked, but it has run with the cracked manifold for several years with no problems. But, I got a new one anyhow, and put it on. It made no difference. Almost $300 later, I still have the same problem. Ok, it blows the black smoke like crazy, and smoothing out before running out of gas tells me it's getting too much gas, not enough air. I tried running it without the air cleaner. Still no difference. It doesn't appear like it's flooding either. It burns it. Could it be possible that I have a problem in the fuel pump?? I haven't done anything with it because I figured it's working or it wouldn't be getting any fuel. But is it possible something is wrong with it causing it to put out too much fuel? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot.
