they can be replaced and only cost a few bucks from your IH dealer.You push the shaft in a few inchs to get the old seal out and replace the with a new one and repeat on the other side. Do not push the shaft in to far or the oil will come pouring out.....don't ask how I know this. The hardest part was getting the old seals out, had to tear them up to get them out. Hope this helps
