how did you shut it down? If you run it to long on gas it will rev way up and put out lots of black smoke. this happens on our super wd6, lots of fun,gas tractors suck. lots of people tell you to swicth it back to gas for shut down so it cools the head and makes it easy to start the next time. We didn't find that it made it start any better and I don't think it cools the head at all! Try touching the muffler after one minute on gas and then after 10 minutes idling on diesel. Talk to any oil furnace mechanic about excess air and how much heat goes out the chimney. Our owners manual says it is normal for the tractor to miss when switched to diesel. try switching afterabout 20 seconds. You can't expect any machine 50 years old to run like new without a lot of money.
