More M 12v wiring questions

Well I got her all wired :). I am confused as to the roll of the wire that goes from the bat connection on the alternator. I have a wire coming from the alternator that used to go to a key switch (replaced with a normal push/pull switch). Do I need to add the light?? I am afraid of hurting my system.

Also, I am using the old light switch which doesn't have many connections to it any more after rewiring it. Is that normal. I have looked over the excellent wiring diagrams supplied by Bob M, but still have these few questions.
