The alternator BAT terminal is the power ouput connection - it supplies current to the electrical system whenever the alternator is operating. You WILL need to add a warning light (or an electrical equivalent) in the #1 line in order for the alternator to work. I prefer a warning light myself - it works same as the alternator idiot light your car. However you can substitute the electrical equivalent of a 10 to 40 ohm, 5 watt resistor and/or a diode in place of the lamp if you prefer. (If you don't add a light or resistor, the engine won't shut off when you push in the ignition switch.) When you are finished you should have only 3 wires connected to the light switch: The supply from the ammeter, a wire feeding the headlights, and another wire feeding the rear light.
