You should drain and refill the gear box. Use 80-90W gear oil. And while you are at it, you should replace the oil in the final drives too, which are separate from the gear box. The drain for the transmission is on the right rear of the housing, just in front of where the PTO assembly is bolted to the transmission case. The level plug is located on the left front of the transmission case behind the brake rod on the left side of the tractor. You'll likely have to take the brake rod clevis loose (take the pin out) to get to the level plug. The fill hole is on top near the gear shift lever. When you refill, fill until the oil comes out of the level plug opening. I think it holds about 6 quarts. There is no drain on the final drives. You have to remove the pans on the bottom. Get new gaskets before you do that. Clean out the pans and replace them with a new gasket and fill through the hole that is in the casting just above where the pans attach. You may have to remove the drawbar to get to the fill holes. The fill plugs have a 1/2 inch square recess for a wrench to take the plugs out. A 1/2 inch drive socket extension works good for a wrench. Fill the final drives up to the bottom of the fill holes. I think they hold a quart or so each. Good Luck!

Today's Featured Article - The Cletrac General GG and the BF Avery A - A Bit of History - by Mike Ballash. This article is a summary of what I have gathered up from various sources on the Gletrac General GG and the B. F. Avery model A tractors. I am quite sure that most of it is accurate. The General GG was made by the Cleveland Tractor Company (Cletrac) of Cleveland, Ohio. Originally the company was called the Cleveland Motor Plow Company which began in 1912, then the Cleveland Tractor Company (1917) and finally Cletrac. ... [Read Article]
