I've seen this several times. A farmer would come to the end of the field and stop and put the tractor in neutral. When he wanted to go again the tractor would just sit there. There have been three types of pins in the range trans for the shift lever to ride on. The first had a bolt holding the fork, it would break at the bolt hole and let the fork drop off. The second had one snap ring to hold the fork in place, the snap ring would slip off and the fork would fall off again. Finally the company came with a shaft with two snap rings and it seems to work. You can check this by looking in the hole where the third link bolts onto the rear frame{take out the six bolts and you will find the hole.) Look to the left and just above the diff. and you may see a pin sticking out toward the rear(the pin is approx.3/4 in in diameter). If this is the problem than the range trans cover needs to be removed to fix the problem.
