How do you adjust carb on cub????

Can someone share a few tips on how to keep your cub running smooth. to much gas and it dies, shut fuel off, and it runs great till it burns up fuel in bowl. I have done everything except replace or kit the carb. this is a 1949 cub demonstrator model with white hood. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks billy in montana
