Bill...the 184 is 12V negative ground so I assume that is the way you have it hooked up. The alternator on the 184 has a ballast resistor on the back of it...Is that still there? The negative coil wire should be hooked up to the distributor. If you have just gone through 1 coil, it could have been defective. Also check your ignition switch to make sure the coil isn't still hot when you think it is off. Don't know whate else to tell you based on the little information here...BB
