Andy - Glad to hear that 706 problems aren't too serious. Still surprises me that your oil rings would be worn so badly with short hours but I think you may be right about the air filter. Doesn't take long running an engine in dusty conditions (while you were running dryer??) to do some damage. I like the deglazer you describe with the small abrasive balls. I've always been told only use it enough to 'roughen' the cylinder walls with a nice cross hatch pattern and no more.
