Disassembled the oil drinking 706 gas this afternoon

Some of you guys responded to my post. I had a IH 706 gas that was using oil and down a cylinder. What I found was a burnt valve in the number 1 cylinder which didn't have any compression. Also it seems as if the oil rings are quite worn compared to the compression and scraper rings. The tractor had good power but used oil in excess. All of that burning oil probably put some carbon under the valve and let hot gasses begin to escape. In a matter of time a hole burns into the valve margin. The pistons look great - almost like new. The sleeves look good too. The rod and main bearings look OK but while I am there I plan on replacing them. Looks like I found my problems. Wonder what caused this to happen? Probably dirt some how. All of the air intake was tight. Intake manifold was tight to the block. Don't know how that wear would have taken place. Maybe a bad air filter at one time. Thanks guys. New question .... what should I deglaze the cylinder walls with? A deglazer with those round abrasive balls on it? I guess I prefer this kind over the flat stone type hone. How much deglazing is necessary? Thanks again. andy
