We have been in the process of completely restoring a '45 H and we are now on the rear-end. I have replaced all of the rear bearings and seals and at the same time have been going through the transmission. I had to replace 1st and reverse slider, 4th and 5th slider, the reverse idler gear, 3rd and 4th driver and because I was able to get one, I replaced the constant mesh gear. All of these were either NOS gears or new after-market gears. I am getting a bad knocking / rubbing noise in the belly now. My question is this... On the constant mesh gear, the new one was a little wider but same number of teeth (55). I am wondering if by chance this was an update that they did for the super H's and if so, will I need to replace the transmission driver shaft that it runs with also. My old constant mesh was part 48418D and I for some reason didn't look at the part number on the new constant mess but did count teeth. An old parts manual I've been using also shows a part # 357459 R1 hand written in next to the original part. Are these parts interchangeable or am I in trouble here? I know that they beefed up the reverse idler gear at one point in the production of H's and am wondering if this was the case for the constant mesh gear also. Maybe even changing the pitch of the teeth - which would possibly give me this noise. Any help on this technical question would be appreciated.

Avery model A tractors. I am quite sure that most of it is accurate. The General GG was made by the Cleveland Tractor Company (Cletrac) of Cleveland, Ohio. Originally the company was called the Cleveland Motor Plow Company which began in 1912, then the Cleveland Tractor Company (1917) and finally Cletrac.
