Just inherited this Super MTA, has Char-Lynn power steering with the pump mounted to a bracket attached to the governor cover and a remote reservoir. Have the original owners manuals for power steering but it makes no mention of what I should be using for power steering fluid. Fluid in the system appears to have leaked out and what remains in the reservoir looks and feels alot like 90 weight gear oil. I know power steering can also be operated from a flow-divider valve attahced to a live hydraulic system, in which case the power steering fluid is the hydraulic fluid. Would it be reasonable to assume that a pump and reservoir system could be filled with the same hydraulic fluid used in the live hydraulic system?
