MD QUESTIONS-HELP?

I have been lurking for a while on these boards and need some help. I have a chance to get a md, not stuck but has water in oil. I have heard that have head troubles. So if the head is cracked can it be welded? If so who does it and what is the cost? If the head is shot can you replace the engine with one from a gas m? If I buy this for a resonable price-and decide I don't want to mess with it, will I be able to resale it and brake even? Finally what is it worth? It's all there has a brand new starter, faded paint, worn tires etc. Sorry so long, thanks for any help.
