I bought an MD about 5 years ago and discovered it had a cracked head. I had a tractor restorer fix it - if I remember right he sent the head to another shop to be welded. Cost me about $1000 all told. The MD is well known for this tendency. Don't know if all cracks are repairable but I've had no more trouble.
