John, tell your shop man to never hot tank a cast iron camshaft. Cast iron camshafts after they are ground they are Parkerluberized (Boiled In Oil).Running through a hot tank or spray washer that uses caustic will remove the oil from cam.Have him look at a new 350 Chev cam part number CS 274 most common on the shelf you will see the dull oil look Your tractor cam may be ok if you have good lifters and you pre lube with special cam lube. The only reason you could be OK is you don't have the spring pressure a automotive engine has.Earl
