Trans. problems, please answer!

I have a '41 H and have trans problems. The pilot bearing went out and fell apart and peices got inbetween the constant mesh gear on the bottom. the IT shop manual says that the bottom shaft is splined but mine is a flat shaft with keys. The shop manual says to take off bearing and holder and push shaft backwards and pull shaft out backwards so you can retrieve the gears out top (with deck off). well mine is stuck so tight. there are three sections or peices of gears and the first two that are constant mesh and fourth-third I can moove but the 2nd and first gear is almost unmoveable. can it be moved forward or is it supposed to go rearward after the snapring, bearing, spacer, than first and second? any advice atall, I'm desperate!
