Cleaning gas tank for an H

I have an H that needed a gas tank & a parts H w/good tank, but it had about 1" of varnish covering the bottom of the tank. I bought 2 gallons of white vinegar & poured it in the tank, which I'd taken off the parts tractor. Left it for about 6 weeks, during which time I'd slosh it around whenever I thought about it. Drained the sludge the other day & washed w/H2O. (Took four washings to get clear water out of it.) You wouldn't believe how clean it got. You can actually see the galvanizing all over the bottom & along the sides. Just thought you all might like to know that it worked for me, as others maight have the same problem.
