1940 Farmall H seat

The seat on my 1940 Farmall H is like no other I have seen. It appears to be some sort of springloaded sheet metal contraption rather than the typical bent pipe mounted on a spring. Around the back of it, it has an approximately 2" piece of curved sheet metal. The seat itself flips up and back like other Farmall seats. Is this seat assembly original? I have read that the 1939 H's had a strange sheet metal seat assembly that was quickly scrapped. Does anyone know about this? Is it rare? I have never seen any others.
