This is just one of those things where you cannot beat a man at his own game, meaning a injection pump rebuilder may be your best and believe it or not, cheapest option. They are tooled with necessary test benches, calibration equipment and experience that it takes to do the job. I had the same dilemma a year ago and advice from the board guided me to a diesel pump service. Look at an exploded view of the pump, the number of springs, seals, orings, screws....and they are all pretty to very small. I am not trying to down play your mechanical abilities or discourage you in any way. I feel I am a capable mechanic too, but I am glad I opted to go with a guy that knows these things inside and out. Best of luck whatever you decide.
