Hi Don! My experience with H's (also M's...) is to choke them sparingly. Unless it's very cold (<20 deg or so) do this: Set the governor at about 1/3. Now pull the choke all the way and hit the starter. Soon as the motor begins to crank, IMMEDIATELY push the choke back in and the motor should start. If it's cold you may have to work the choke (sparingly) a few times again after the motor fires to keep it running, but after 30 or seconds or so it should run without any choke. When choking best err on not enough choke than too much - too much will flood the carb and make starting difficult. All of the above of course presumes the carb is tuned properly and the ignition is in good shape... Regarding sparkplugs, I've used both Champions and AC's in my stuff. Found both brands work fine. Right now both my SH and SM have Champion D-21's in 'em - I haven't touched the plugs in either of them in 4 or 5 years (a couple hundred hours of running) ...Bob
